Frequently Asked Questions
Purchasing An Original Painting
What is currently available for sale?
Shop my available inventory of original paintings.
How can I submit a request for a custom painting?
I love custom painting requests! Please submit your request. It is helpful to provide me with pictures, details, who the painting is for, what your relationship is to them, and why you want to immortalize this memory in a painting. It's easier for me to create your dream painting if I can deeply understand your emotional connection to the custom painting request.
I saw a painting of yours that I REALLY liked, but it's not for sale... Will you make another one for me?
I would be more than happy to! However, I won't make it identical to that painting you liked. I'm only human, so I can't promise to create the exact same painting and I wouldn't want to. One of the benefits of ordering from an artist is that your home decor will be totally unique to you! In fact, I would LOVE it if you emailed me, "Hey McCayla! I absolutely fell in love with your 'Walk With Me' painting. Could you create one for me and include two bicycles resting on one of the trees? Make it look as if two bikers decided to stroll through the woods for a bit on foot? My husband and I LOVE to do this and it would feel like the painting was MADE for us!" (and in fact, it would be made JUST FOR YOU.)
OR... You can purchase a print of most of my original artwork on my RedBubble site: The Selcouth Woman
How much do you charge for your paintings?
Great question. The answer to this question is a bit complex. You can always send me an email and ask for a simple $$ answer. Or you can read below for a bit more information.
For available original paintings - The available inventory of original paintings are clearly priced for your convenience. The price is a combination of material costs level of detail, and time spent working on the painting. If you want a painting shipped to you, you will be charged shipping costs on top of the price of the painting.
For customized paintings - I would ask you a series of questions including but not limited to, "What is your budget? What level of detail would you like to be added? What size canvas would you like? What colors would you like me to include? What colors would you like me to exclude? What reference photos do you have to share with me?" After which I would create a quote for you. The price will be a combination of material costs level of detail, and time spent working on the painting. If you want a painting shipped to you, you will be charged shipping costs on top of the price of the painting.
Booking a Virtual Class
What services do you offer?
You can view all of my classes here. I offer virtual painting classes to groups of 5-20 people (You can organize your own group, or sign up for an event and join up to 19 strangers), I create original paintings available for sale, and I offer customized paintings for my clients.
Why should I book a virtual class with you?
You and your friends, coworkers, or family can get together virtually in a brand new way from the comfort of wherever YOU want to be! With me you will laugh a whole lot, get to spend time with your friends or family, get a little turned up, and learn to paint a canvas of your choosing (see my Virtual Painting Sessions album for available selections). You will be responsible for your own supplies including a canvas, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, a cup for water, a paper towel or an old towel that can get stained, a paper bag or tarp or newspaper, and BYOB. Sipping while painting is optional, please let me know your preference.
The duration of this class is scheduled to take 2.5 hours. However, everyone paints at a different pace so it is possible that the class may be done earlier or later than that.
How can I sign up for one of your virtual painting classes?
I really want to join one of your painting classes, but I can't find a group of 5 - 20 people who want to join me, what can we do?
I'm glad you asked! I offer events once a quarter for individuals just like you! Anyone can join. You can join by yourself, or invite a few of your friends to meet you in my online class. Check here for upcoming events, or send me an email!
How much does it cost to take one of your virtual classes?
Group Rate - If you can get a group of 5 - 20 people together, I charge $10 per participant. If the class size is reduced to less than 5 participants, the class will either be cancelled or the remaining participants must pay a minimum total of $50 for the class to be taught.
Public Painting Class - You can join my events as an individual for $15 per participant. If the class size is reduced to less than 5 participants, the class will either be cancelled or the remaining participants must pay a total of $50 for the class to be taught.
What materials do I need to have or buy to participate in a virtual painting class?
You will be responsible for your own supplies including a canvas, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, a cup for water, a paper towel or an old towel that can get stained, and a paper bag or tarp or newspaper.
Colors needed will vary from class to class. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
Paintbrushes needed will vary from class to class. However, it is always good to have a variet of options available. Often you can buy a variety pack for under $5.00 at a craft store like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.
What is your cancellation policy for virtual classes?
Cancellation Policy: If you cannot attend, contact your group coordinator or McCayla as soon as possible. If the class size is reduced to less than 5 participants, the class will either be cancelled or the remaining participants must pay a total of $50 for the class to be taught. Participants who cancel without providing notice may be subject to a full or partial refund, contact your group coordinator or McCayla Thoe for more information.
Can I record your virtual painting classes for any reason?
No is the simple answer. See below for my full recording policy.
Recording Policy: Recording these classes is not permitted unless given written permission from McCayla Thoe. If a recording of the class is permitted, McCayla Thoe is required to review the content before the content may be distributed. After review of the recording, McCayla Thoe reserves the right to refuse the distribution of a recording. As the owner of the content, McCayla Thoe reserves the right to require you to delete the recording at any time, for any reason, and is not required to provide a reason. If a recording is permitted, the recording may only be distributed to those who have been approved by McCayla Thoe. If a recording has been permitted, the recording may only be available for 2 weeks to the permitted individuals. If a recording is permitted, the individuals who are permitted to receive the video will be invoiced for the class regardless of whether or not they watch the video or complete the canvas. After two weeks, the recording must be deleted and removed from any streaming sites. By acknowledging and accepting this policy you have agreed to these terms and conditions. Failure to acknowledge and accept this policy means you do not have permission to record or distribute recordings of any virtual painting classes put on by McCayla Thoe, owner of Selcouth Artistry.
What medium do you work with?
Acrylic paints on canvas.
Can you do watercolor paintings?
No, I only paint with acrylic paint.
Can you do oil paintings?
No, I only paint with acrylic paint.
Would you paint on wood instead of a canvas?
Absolutely! I grew up on a farm that has been in my family since 1851 so there were wooden barns everwhere. Any chance to work with reclaimed wood brings me so much joy! Just look at "Wooden Mountains" for an example. I painted "Wooden Mountains" on a piece of reclaimed wood from one of the last standing round barns in Minnesota. Just let me know what you have in mind, and I'll do my best to bring it to life!
